Instructions for Authors

Instructions for preparation of manuscripts

Submission Deadline has been Extended to January 31, 2008

Authors are invited to follow the rules described below for the preparation of extended abstracts, of full papers and of posters.

The observance of the rules is mandatory, and reviewers are authorised to reject a paper basing solely on this criterium.

Thus, authors are kindly invited to CAREFULLY READ the instructions.

Preparation of Extended Abstracts

The Extended Abstract is a summary, which outlines the work to be reported, and includes as many of the results as possible. The format of the abstract is shown in the templates below. The length of the abstract is one A4 page.

Extended Abstracts are subject to peer review, and can be accepted for full oral presentation or for poster presentation, or rejected. This implies that they must be as complete and as clear as possible. For this reason, the inclusion of figures and tables is strongly recommended.

A compressed (.zip and .gz) RTF template containing the most important guidelines for preparing your Extended Abstract can be downloaded here:

Extended Abstracts should be submitted in RTF format as soon as possible, but not later than January 31, 2008. Submission is allowed only via the dedicated online system hosted at http://www.isg08.org/openconf

  1. Prepare your Extended Abstract from the downloaded template, and save it in RTF format, give it a meaningful name (eg.: ISG08_NameOfCorrespondingAuthor_XX.rtf)
  2. go to http://www.isg08.org/openconf and click on "Submit a Paper"
  3. fill the submission form:
    • paper title; is the paper a student paper?
    • authors information
    • contact author information (IMPORTANT! DON'T FORGET IT)
    • technical areas: select the most relevant topic(s) for your paper
    • content: input the keywords and the short abstract of your paper, then select the Extended Abstract RTF file, and don't forget to choose Format: RTF
    • enter (twice) the password for your submission
    • optionally add some comments to the chair
    • Click on Submit Paper

Preparation of Full Papers

A compressed MS Word template (.dot file) containing the guidelines for preparing your Full paper can be downloaded here:

To create your own document, from within MS Word, open a new document using File | New then select ISG_fullpaper_template.dot

The page limit for the ISG’08 conference is up to 6 pages, please observe it.

ISG will not do the final formatting of your paper, so, please stick to the template format.

Full papers must be submitted as MS Word or, preferably, as PDF documents, using the Conference online submission tool at http://www.isg08.org/openconf, as follows

  1. name the file "fullpaper_<paperNumber>.pdf" (or .doc if you're uploading a MS Word file)
  2. go to http://www.isg08.org/openconf and click on "Re-Upload Paper"
  3. enter your paper ID (the one that you have received as a result of your abstract submission) and the corresponding password, then select the full paper file, and don't forget to choose the correct format
  4. Click on Upload Paper

Corresponding authors need to complete their registration (including payment of the registration fee) register within April 30, 2008 to have their paper published in the conference proceedings. The deadline for the submission of full papers is also April 30, 2008.

Preparation of Posters

Please note: authors of abstracts accepted for poster presentation also need to submit a full paper. Please refer to the instructions for the preparation of full papers (previous section of this page)

  1. The maximum poster area is 90 cm (width) x 140 cm (height).
  2. At the Conference Registration Desk you will find tapes and scissors to hang your poster.
  3. All poster presenters will have to deliver a 60-second "teaser". We ask the authors of posters to provide one or two PowerPoint slides that will be included in a continuous presentation for the teaser sessions, which will take place one in the morning and one in the afternoon (the same day as the poster session). Please have a look at the program to know when your teaser is scheduled. The slides will be run in sequence without a break, and no speaker will be allowed to excess this 60-second time limit due to the very tight schedule. See instructions for poster teasers below.

Instructions for poster teaser preparation:

Here are a few recommendations to help authors to format their teaser:

Teasers must be submitted only by email. DO NOT SUBMIT TEASERS using the same procedure used for full papers.

  1. name the file "teaser_<paperNumber>.ppt"
  2. send it by email at the following address: isg08@arts.sssup.it

Corresponding authors need to complete their registration (including payment of the registration fee) register within April 30, 2008 to have their full paper published in the conference proceedings. The deadline for the submission of full papers is also April 30, 2008.
